Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony between Nilai Medical Centre and National Cancer Society Malaysia

Nilai, Tuesday, October 22, 2019 — 11:00am

Nilai Medical Centre (Nilai Medical) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM] to signify the start of a joint commitment towards helping the financially constraint cancer patients to have access to affordable radiotherapy treatment.

Aligned with the NMC’s mission to offer quality healthcare services and doing its best for community, this collaboratio n will bring NMC a notch further in its pled ge to support the community, by offering a subsidised rate to all cancer patients referred from NCSM.

The M oU was signed by Ms. Jasmine Lau Mooi Hun, Chief Executive Officer of Nilai Medical Centre, and Dr. M urallitharan M., Medical Director of NCSM.

To enable more patients to benefit from this joint collaboration, NMC also kick off its seminal “NMC Pink Run — Power in Pink” charity run today. The charity run aims to raise funds to aid the underprivileged, cancer-stricken patients to have access for radiotherapy treatment at a subsidised rate.

Studies conducted in Malaysia has clearly indicated that financial constraint is one of the factors affecting a cancer-patients’ recovery. Apart from having to bear for the treatment cost, there are other non-medicinal costs incurred, such as travelling to and fro to a hospital which is far from where they come from.

The journey to recovery can be physically, emotionally and financially challenging to patients and family, and some chose to delay treatment, which affects a patient recovery rate. Dr. M urallitharan said, “This fund would enable cancer patients from Nilai, Seremban and its vicinity to obtain radiotherapy treatment closer to their home, which would significantly reduce travelling time and cost.”

Nilai Medical Centre is committed to serve its community, and to mark its 20‘” Anniversary; the private medical centre is paving it forward through various corporate social responsibility (CSR I initiatives.

“It is our pledge to give back to the society and in the spirit of charity, we are proud to support NCSM by raising sufficient funds for cancer patie nts to have access for radiotherapy treatment, closer to their home.”, said M s. Jasmine.

The NMC Pink Run will be held on the 17’^ November 2019 and offers 10 KM M en and Women 0pen category, as well as 3KM Fun Run, with the official flag-off time at 7.00am at Nilai Medical Centre. Other activities within its premise will be held concurrently — basic health screening, blood donation drive, National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKNI booth, cancer information booth, zumba, mini carnival, and many more.
